Jan 11-13: Eight students chose to do an optional home stay with families in or near the city of Amersfoort. Spending time in the homes of their gracious hosts was the main event, but the group also enjoyed an excursion to the Castle of Muiderslot, a real treasure of historical Holland. On Sunday the group attended a church service at Het Kruispunt (Amersfoort-Vathorst) where they even sang two English hymns to the congregation as part of the worship service. Sunday afternoon also featured a “coffee time” with a pastor (Ron van der Spoel) and a politician (Gert-Jan Segers) who talked to the group about the church in the Netherlands and about Christians in politics. A pot-luck dinner of traditional Dutch dishes with the host families rounded off the weekend.
